Keith was my brother who, when we were growing up, generally teased me, whacked me and called me names (just like any other normal family then!) We had pet names for each other and Keith's was 'Keef Teef, a Lump of Beef!' I'm not too sure but think that might have come about from the time he fell asleep in his Sunday roast beef dinner! Somewhere along the line I shortened that and called him Kit and he called me Ponx! (don't ask!) Actually, it wasn't until we all grew up and left the family home that I started to really get to know Keith and surprise, surprise, he turned out to be a really nice guy! We seemed to get a lot closer as each year went by and i knew he was always there if I needed him. Two words spring to mind when I think of Keith - Kind and Funny! Kind - because he always found time for his family and friends and went out of his way to help someone if he was able, he had a heart of gold. The love he showed our mum, especially during her long illness, was very apparent and he always managed to make her laugh. He was such a character and had a great sense of humour, people were just drawn to him. Even during his last few weeks he still honoured me by laughing at my naff jokes and at the end when he could only communicate by a light-writer box - he still managed to type in something funny and make us all laugh. MND/ALS is the most awful, debilitating disease and I am so happy that this current ice bucket challenge has raised millions of pounds towards research to finding a cure. Obviously, I don't need this excuse to donate and this has been my chosen charity since 2009 when Keith passed away. However, I have been nominated by someone on social media to do it, and, never one to refuse a challenge, I have done it and have donated in Keith's name. It's just not fair that my brother was taken so soon! He affected my life more than he knew and I miss him so much.
